Ayurveda, the ancient timeless wisdom, science of life, always focuses on whole person. Ayurveda considers every individual as indivisible, complete and a unique expression of universal consciousness. Within the life there is beautiful amalgamation between matter & energy and similarly between the body, mind, and consciousness. Therefore, Ayurveda always considers an individual as indivisible/ as a whole and thus, strongly proponents the principle of whole person healing.
Ayurveda is the oldest system of health science known to mankind embedded with spiritual knowledge and based on the principles for promotion of health as well as healing of various disorders. Ayurveda offers a comprehensive approach to health and wellness, focusing on maintaining balance between the body, mind, and spirit (consciousness).
Ayurveda is not simply a medical science, it is a life science embedded with the profound knowledge of yoga, spirituality, and philosophy. Hence, it is also recognized as holistic science of healing. Ayurveda offers best way to succeed a healthy and happy life.
Conglomeration of four independent component, Sharir (body), Indriya (senses/sensory & motor faculties), Satva (mind) and Atma (soul) is defined as life in Ayurveda. Perfect complementary support of all these factors is necessary for a healthy life. Therefore, in Ayurveda the health is defined on physical, mental, sensory, and spiritual domains. As per Ayurveda an individual with Sam Dosha (balanced state of Dosha), Sam Agni (balanced metabolic energy), Sam Dhatu (proportionate body organs & tissues with proper metabolism), Sam Mal Kriya (proper physiology with regular elimination of waste products), Prasanna Aatmendriya (delighted soul with proper functioning of sense organs) Prasanna Man (healthy/delighted mind) is considered healthy.
Ayurveda is rooted in the concept of Panchmahabhoot, Dosha, Dhatu, Agni & Mala. Panchmahabhoot are the five basic elements of life present in the universe and inside the biological system. Purushoayam Lokasamitah i.e. what is in the universe that is inside you. These elements combine to form three bio-energies or three bio-humors which we abbreviated as Tridosha. The Tridosha present in the human biological system since birth and sustain the system for whole life and perform various metabolic functions needed to sustain and run life. But when these Doshas get vitiated by various means like unhealthy diet, unhealthy environment, etc. then the disorders develop.
There are seven Dhatus described in Ayurveda. Dhatus represent the building material (various tissues and organs) of the body. Agni denotes the digestive and metabolic energy which is crucial for the proper digestion, absorption, assimilation of various nutrients and runs the entire biological system. Metabolic healing (and or reprogramming) is the basic to promote the health and to heal various disorders. Metabolic healing is the collective work of Dosha, Dhatu, and Agni. Whole person healing is the best approach to heal the metabolism.
Indeed, Ayurveda is often described as a “timeless but proven science” due to its ancient roots and continued relevance since centuries. Its principles and practices have been passed down through generations, have been used for centuries and even today, equally useful, and beneficial for public welfare.
Ayurveda places a strong emphasis over promotion of health rather than disease management. Ayurveda advocates several ways of health promotion like daily regimes, seasonal regimes, and various other types of lifestyle modifications. Despite its timeless origin, Ayurveda continues to evolve and adopt to deal various contemporary health challenges very effectively. Contrary to western medical science, Ayurveda has firmly stood on its basic principles since time immemorial despite the huge changes in climatic condition, anatomy and physiology of various infective micro-organisms, lifestyle, nature of psychological stress & its triggers and so many other conditions associated with human life and behavior.
